Kayaking Sydney Harbour with Alex the seal

Our Sydney by Kayak team have been pretty excited about our 10 shiny new Grifinn kayaks arriving this month, ready for the upcoming kayaking season on our magnificent Sydney Harbour.
Our upgraded kayaks have see through viewing windows in the floors and custom made coffee cup holders on the front. To christen the kayaks, our Guides organised a Maiden Voyage Sunrise Kayak out of Lavender Bay, donating $25 from each seat sold to Oxfam.
It certainly wasn’t as cold as we thought it might be. This winter has been extremely mild, making it much easier to get out of bed for our sunrise kayak and coffee paddles.
This particular morning, Sunday 6th August, was pretty special. We were approached by, who we think might be, Alex the seal, who is famously photographed on the steps of the Sydney Opera House.
Due to the recent clean-ups around Sydney Harbour, it is believed our waterways are cleaner than ever! This hopefully means more wildlife and marine life for us to spot on our Sydney Harbour kayak tours.
Alex was splashing around, waving and smiling at our kayakers under the Harbour bridge on Sunday morning. One of our paddlers is a biologist and Alex popped up right next to her kayak. It was a very exciting time for our group of paddlers. Well worth getting up early for.
We cant guarantee Alex will come back, but we will be running this paddle again on Sunday, donating the same $25 per seat sold to our Trailwalker Oxfam team.
