Being a husband and wife team, working 7 days a week through the warmer months, Sydney by Kayak’s head Guides, myself (Laura) and Ben, usually take a break in winter. As a couple, we usually head somewhere warmer, where we can recuperate and rest for a few weeks, ready for the upcoming warmer months and busy kayaking season in Sydney.

This past year, things were a little different for us for a couple of reasons. Firstly, we had a baby. Most of you probably know this already, due to the pop-up messages, auto-responders and photos on our Social Media platforms. This certainly wasn’t as regenerating as our usual winter holidays, but it has definitely been a rewarding few months for our little kayaking family.

The second reason is, last winter was pretty mild. With day after day of fresh morning sunrises and temperatures close to those celebrated in Summer in some other countries. It has been a perfect time to kick Ben out of bed to keep the wheels turning on our kayak van and enjoy the winter sun and calm waterways, while I got to grips with my new roll as “mum”.

This Summer, our top pick of the season was, without a doubt, our Sunrise Kayak and Coffee Tour. It was rated in Time Out Magazine as one of the “Top things to do in Sydney”, and top Sydney activities to do before 9am. You can read Emma Joyce’s full article on our business here.

We had an incredible season on the water, with multiple honeymooners, anniversaries, corporate teams, clean up paddles, Educational Bushcare paddles, a lululemon ambassador proposal, over 30 birthdays and two proposals.. both saying “yes!”..phew!

Of course the Sunrise tour is our favourite. We usually fight a little over who gets to guide this one. (I usually win). Paddling across the glassy, flat, calm waters of Lavender Bay, with nothing but the pink fairyfloss clouds and the magnificent bridge in your sights, it’s just magical. Enjoying the fresh, hot coffee from San Antonio bakery in Kirribilli as you glide past Luna Park, capturing these moments with incredible photos that’ll last a lifetime. There’s nothing quite like it. After four years of early starts and doing the same paddle, neither of us are even close to being bored of this one.

However, this Autumn and Winter, we wanted to come up with a new tour. One that would allow you to stay warm and enjoy the calm waters of Sydney Harbour in the crisp, cooler air and warming winter sun. We’re hoping it’ll become one of the new top things to do in Sydney this Winter! Fingers crossed!

So, what is it? I hear you ask..clonnys-beach-fish-and-chips It’s a half day lunch tour of Sydney’s spectacular Middle Harbour, stopping off for Fish and Chips, plus a hot coffee and a break at Clonny’s on Clontarf beach. After an hour of paddling, you’ll get to relax inside the stunning beach café, Clonny’s, and enjoy freshly cooked fish and chips, overlooking Middle Harbour. After lunch, you’ll get a coffee and refreshments, which you can bring with you for the return journey, using our eco friendly, splash proof coffee cups and kayak coffee cup holders.

We will still be running our Sunrise tour and our Lavender Bay Kayak and Coffee Paddles, but to keep things interesting, we’re offering this NEW tour from April onwards. To start the ball rolling, we’re offering a $60 discount on all of our Fish and Chip Tours in April, meaning you can paddle for $85, which is our childs rate instead of $145. Simply enter FIRSTFISH at the checkout and it’ll reduce your tour price per person. Available in April only. Click here to book.

We are always looking for new ideas and trying to keep things fresh and new at Sydney by Kayak. One of our other top picks this summer was our Sydney Harbour Kayak and Ice-cream tour. Offering customers a scoop of ice-cream to enjoy on Sydney Harbour as we watched all of the boats go past. It was amazing! Thank you to the guys at Gelatisimo, Artarmon, for their efforts in providing so much tasty ice-cream!

Coming in to the cooler months, we still hope to recuperate and come back with more fresh tours for next Summer. Who knows what fun ideas we’ll come up with next. If you have any special requests, let us know! We’re happy to give it a go 😊

See you on the water.

Laura, Benjamin and our little Paddler, Levi
