The Corporate Clean-Up Paddle turns a morning on Sydney Harbour into genuine team building with real, measurable impact.

Guided by our experienced kayak guides, your team paddles the calm waters of Lavender Bay, collecting rubbish from the harbour while hearing the stories behind the conservation projects you're helping fund. Fresh air, a shared mission, and a tangible difference, all before the working day really begins. It's a corporate volunteer day, a CSR initiative and a team-building activity rolled into one.

Since 2018, we've set aside $15 from every seat sold to our SBK Conservation Fund. That money has built a mangrove nursery in Berry's Bay, installed a Seabin in Darling Harbour, and created a world-first Living Seawall habitat in Lavender Bay. When your team paddles with us, you're directly backing that work, guided by our eco partners at the Sydney Institute of Marine Science.

What makes it different

The Impact:

Every paddle funds real conservation. $15 from each seat goes straight to local harbour projects, so your team leaves the water measurably cleaner than you found it, with the numbers to show for it.

The Team Building:

Nothing bonds a team like a shared mission on the water. No kayaking experience needed and beginners are genuinely welcome. Expect a bit of friendly competition over who fills their bucket first.

The Experience:

Stable single kayaks, professional guides at a 1:6 ratio, and the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House as your backdrop. We photograph the whole morning, so your team leaves with a gallery to keep.

What You Can Expect

Your eco-adventure begins at Lavender Bay boat ramp, where our friendly, experienced guides meet you (just look for the bright kayaks). After a safety briefing, life-jacket fitting and a quick paddling lesson, you'll head onto Sydney Harbour for a leisurely lap of beautiful Lavender Bay.

As you paddle, you'll hear the stories behind our conservation work and our eco partners, Ecobel Sydney and the Sydney Institute of Marine Science, and learn how the projects you're funding actually work. With the Harbour Bridge and Opera House behind you, you'll fill your buckets with rubbish and play a real part in protecting the harbour. You can see exactly where that effort goes on our SBK Funded Projects page and read our full Sustainability pledge.

Making a difference doesn't mean missing out. We take care of the details by keeping your team safe, sharing the stories, and capturing plenty of photos and video with the best of Sydney in the background, so your team takes away an album of the whole morning.

Included in your tour

  • All kayak equipment, including single kayak, paddle and life-jacket (various sizes)
  • Buckets and sieves for safely collecting rubbish
  • Qualified, experienced and friendly kayak guides/instructors
  • Full safety briefing and kayak instruction before departure
  • Free digital photos and videos, taken by your guides

Features Explained

Experience Level

Our “Beginner” level kayak tours either depart at Sunrise when the water is calm, quiet, and serene, or they do not leave the bay, so they are perfect for new paddlers. The “Intermediate” options require you to have paddled at least once before, having had a little bit of experience in a kayak and a reasonable level of fitness. This is due to the tour passing ferry wharves and being a tad longer than our beginner paddles.

All our kayaks are stable, single kayaks, perfect for all experience levels, allowing you to explore and paddle independently, but still sit next to each other for photos.

Coffee

Sydney By Kayak offer barista-made coffee (or tea or hot chocolate) in reusable thermos cups, freshly made to enjoy in your kayak out on Sydney Harbour. Please ensure you fill in your preferred coffee order 48 hours prior to your kayaking experience.

Photos

All our kayak experiences include exceptional photos and some videos, taken by our guides. Have a think about your preferred poses or check out our Instagram page for inspiration @sydney_by_kayak. This is your time to shine! Guides will Airdrop and email albums after the tour.

Guides

We try to have a Guide to Paddler ratio of minimum 1:6, so we can offer the most customer service and safety possible. All our kayak tours are guided experiences.

Paddling under the Sydney Harbour Bridge

Our Sunrise Kayak and Coffee tour plans to go under the Bridge every day from November to January, based on sunrise and ferry times, and on weekends, all year round. This can be affected by certain wind directions and very occasionally, fog. Our aim is to keep everyone safe, and we will always do our best to offer this epic experience, but your safety will always come first.

Group Size

This can vary a fair bit, but we try to stick to the above numbers as much as possible, based on the length of the tour, ferry crossings, and the time of the tour etc.

Conservation contribution

Sydney By Kayak contributes $15 from every seat sold on our Eco tours and Clean-up paddles. You can read more about our funded sustainability projects here.

Tour departure times

All our kayak tours are run in the mornings, starting pre-dawn and finishing up before midday. This is due to the busyness of the boat traffic on Sydney Harbour, the choppiness of the water and the heat of the afternoons. The mornings are generally more calm, serene, and perfect for paddling!

Experience the beauty of Sydney Harbour without the heavy lifting. This is a relaxed, informative, and completely beginner-friendly one-hour lap of beautiful Lavender Bay.

Unlike our open-water tours, this session stays within the sheltered waters of the bay. That means no ferry lines to cross, no heavy boat traffic, and no stress. It is the perfect introduction to the joys of kayaking for families, kids, or anyone wanting a gentle paddle in the sunshine.

Why choose this tour?

Better than Hire: This isn't just a kayak rental. You get two exceptional guides who are there to keep you safe, share fascinating stories about the area's history, and take high-quality photos of you.

Views without the Work: You still get incredible views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Luna Park from the water, but you can enjoy them from the calm sanctuary of Lavender Bay.

Eco-Insights: We paddle past Sydney By Kayak’s Living Seawall Habitat Boulders, where you can see the marine life returning to the harbour and learn about our sustainability initiatives.

What You Can Expect

Your guides will meet you at the Lavender Bay boat ramp (look for the bright kayaks). After a fitting for life jackets and a safety briefing, we head out for some fresh air and gentle exercise.

Think of this as a "social paddle." It is likely Sydney’s shortest guided kayak experience, but it offers the most bang for your buck in terms of things to see and learn. Because we don't travel long distances, we have more time to chat about the history of the harbour, from the early settlers and convicts to the engineering marvels of the Opera House.

Included in your tour

  • Premium Equipment: Single sea kayak, paddle, and life-jacket (PFD available in all sizes, including kids).
  • Expert Guidance: Two qualified and friendly guides/instructors to ensure a safe and social experience.

A three-hour sunrise kayak from Lavender Bay

Sunrise Kayak and Coffee with Breakfast is a guided three-hour sunrise kayak tour on Sydney Harbour, run by Sydney By Kayak from Lavender Bay. We meet pre-dawn at 1 Railway Avenue, paddle out onto the harbour as the light changes, and serve barista coffee on the water. Back at the SBK Eco Hub there is a fresh breakfast waiting, and a second coffee. From $195, no experience needed.

The harbour at its most tranquil

Before the sun has risen and the city wakes up, Sydney Harbour is at its most tranquil. This is your chance to experience the glassy water and quiet magic of the harbour on our signature Sunrise Kayak and Coffee with Breakfast tour.

It isn't just about the paddling. It's about sitting back in your kayak, sipping a hot barista-made coffee, and watching the colours change over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House. It is a perspective of the city that even locals rarely get to see.

And now the morning lasts a little longer. Every Sunrise Kayak and Coffee with Breakfast tour includes a fresh seasonal breakfast, so you can refuel and savour the last of the early light once the paddling is done back at our SBK Eco Hub.

Meet Laura, our founder, and see what a sunrise on the harbour actually looks like.

Tour Highlights:

The Coffee:

We brew your coffee fresh every morning right here at the SBK Eco Hub espresso machine. Whether you want a latte, tea, or hot chocolate, it’s served piping hot in a splash-proof eco-cup so you can enjoy it right there on the water.

The Breakfast:

Your morning now comes with more than coffee. Once you're off the water, settle in for a freshly prepared breakfast: warm scones, pastries, avocado on toast and our seasonal fruit platter, to refuel and round out your time on the harbour.

The Calm:

Unlike the busy daytime harbour, the water at sunrise is often flat and peaceful. It is the perfect time to spot marine life and hear the sounds of the morning.

The Photos:

You don't need to risk your phone. Our guides carry professional cameras to capture high-quality photos of you with the icons in the background.

What You Can Expect

Our friendly team will meet you at 1 Railway Avenue, just back from Lavender Bay boat ramp (look for the life jackets and your friendly guides). After getting fitted with a life jacket, receiving your freshly brewed, barista-made coffee, and running through a safety briefing, we head out onto the water just as the light begins to change.

A Seasonal Experience: We follow the sun to give you the best possible view.

  • Summer: The sun rises early, allowing us to paddle deep under the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
  • Cooler Months: We chase the warm rays by heading towards Goat Island or Sawmillers Reserve, bathing in the morning light with iconic views along the way.

“I did the sunrise kayak with breakfast… and wow, it was amazing! It is totally worth waking up that early. They welcome you with an excellent coffee of your choice… You finish with a really good breakfast and a freshly baked homemade scone (the best I’ve ever had).”

“As a first time kayaker I was slightly nervous but the team made me feel very comfortable and gave me tips along the way… A delicious continental breakfast was included afterwards, a great way to end the tour and the hot morning coffee a great way warm up before the tour kicked off.”
