Features Explained

Experience Level

Our “Beginner” level kayak tours either depart at Sunrise when the water is calm, quiet, and serene, or they do not leave the bay, so they are perfect for new paddlers. The “Intermediate” options require you to have paddled at least once before, having had a little bit of experience in a kayak and a reasonable level of fitness. This is due to the tour passing ferry wharves and being a tad longer than our beginner paddles.

All our kayaks are stable, single kayaks, perfect for all experience levels, allowing you to explore and paddle independently, but still sit next to each other for photos.

Coffee

Sydney By Kayak offer barista-made coffee (or tea or hot chocolate) in reusable thermos cups, freshly made to enjoy in your kayak out on Sydney Harbour. Please ensure you fill in your preferred coffee order 48 hours prior to your kayaking experience.

Photos

All our kayak experiences include exceptional photos and some videos, taken by our guides. Have a think about your preferred poses or check out our Instagram page for inspiration @sydney_by_kayak. This is your time to shine! Guides will Airdrop and email albums after the tour.

Guides

We try to have a Guide to Paddler ratio of minimum 1:6, so we can offer the most customer service and safety possible. All our kayak tours are guided experiences.

Paddling under the Sydney Harbour Bridge

Our Sunrise Kayak and Coffee tour plans to go under the Bridge every day from November to January, based on sunrise and ferry times, and on weekends, all year round. This can be affected by certain wind directions and very occasionally, fog. Our aim is to keep everyone safe, and we will always do our best to offer this epic experience, but your safety will always come first.

Group Size

This can vary a fair bit, but we try to stick to the above numbers as much as possible, based on the length of the tour, ferry crossings, and the time of the tour etc.

Conservation contribution

Sydney By Kayak contributes $15 from every seat sold on our Eco tours and Clean-up paddles. You can read more about our funded sustainability projects here.

Tour departure times

All our kayak tours are run in the mornings, starting pre-dawn and finishing up before midday. This is due to the busyness of the boat traffic on Sydney Harbour, the choppiness of the water and the heat of the afternoons. The mornings are generally more calm, serene, and perfect for paddling!
