What a night…

If you’ve joined us for a paddle recently, you know that we are usually in life jackets, board shorts, and caps, often slightly damp from a morning on the harbour. So, trading the paddle gear for evening wear to celebrate with the Better Business Partnership (BBP) last night felt incredibly special.

We are so honoured to announce that Sydney By Kayak was recognised as one of the Champions of Change for 2025.

As one of Sydney’s pioneering conservation kayaking companies, this award hits different for us. It’s not just a trophy for the shelf, it’s an acknowledgement of the passion and daily efforts that go into running a sustainable business on Sydney Harbour.

More than just a Kayak Tour

Sitting there last night, listening to the stories of other incredible local businesses, almost 13 years of memories came flooding back.

When we started, it was just about getting people out on the water, but over the last decade, it has become so much more. From our signature Sunrise Kayak and Coffee tours to our dedicated Corporate Clean-ups, educational workshops, and ongoing eco-projects, we have poured our hearts into caring for this beautiful waterway.

Winning a "Champion of Change" award is a beautiful reminder that small businesses really can make a big impact. Every piece of rubbish we collect, every mangrove we plant, and every conversation we have with our paddlers, adds up.

Celebrating our team (Who are usually asleep by 8pm!)

The absolute highlight for Ben and me was seeing our team together, celebrating their wonderful work.

Our guides are the hardest workers I know. They are usually up at 3am and out on the water preparing coffee and kayaks before most of Sydney is even awake. They work in the wind, the rain, and the dark, always with a smile for our paddlers.

Seeing everyone dressed up, laughing, sharing stories, and actually being awake past sunset was really beautiful.

Thank you to our Community
A huge thank you to the BBP for acknowledging our work and having us as part of such a supportive sustainability community.

And mostly, thank you to our amazing team and our wonderful customers. Whether you’ve joined us for a sunrise paddle, a community clean-up, or just cheered us on from the shore, thank you for helping us protect Sydney Harbour.

Ben and I are honestly so honoured and proud. Here’s to another year of sharing our beautiful harbour with the world while protecting it for future generations.
